Naust Marine participated in the Development of the New DynIce Optical Data Cable Winch in Collaboration with Hampiðjan.
Hampiðjan recently received the Icelandic Fisheries Award for the Best New Product presented recently at the Exhibition/IceFish in Fífan, Iceland.
The award was for the new DynIce Optical Data Cable Winch, specifically designed for use with the DynIce Optical Data fiber-optic cable, which has been under development in recent months.
Naust Marine participated in the development of the award-winning DOD winch, and the winch was built by Naust Marine in Spain in collaboration with Hampiðjan.
The winch features a drum with a towing system that maintains a constant tension of approximately 800 kg on the cable, preventing it from sinking into the lower layers and being pinched, which could damage the fiber-optic cable. It is also equipped with an arm that precisely arranges the fiber-optic cable onto the drum.
Although the winch is designed primarily for fishing applications, it is also useful in other industries where large amounts of data must be transmitted from great depths to control stations above water. This equipment is poised to play a significant role in the future of fishing, as it allows for nearly unlimited data transmission from underwater gear to the vessel, enabling more efficient management of fishing operations.
Naust Marine congratulates Hampiðjan on receiving the award and is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate on this innovative project.
