In late August and September of this year, Naust Marine proudly delivered, from its workshops in Spain and Iceland, complete electrical winch systems to the American Seafoods company based in Seattle, Washington (USA). Installation of the winches is scheduled for this fall, prior to the A-Season start in Alaska. The first system was delivered to the Catcher/Processor (C/P) Ocean Rover; consisting of:
- (2) Trawling winches - driven by 380kW DC motors
- (2) Net drums - with 230 kW AC motors
- (2) Gilsons - with 160 kW AC motors
- (2) Cod end winches
- (3) 3rd wire winches (Net sounder cable)
- (1) Out hauling winch
- (2) Capstans
- (2) Retrievers
The second vessel to recieve Naust Marine´s electrical winch systems was Factory Trawler (F/T) Northern Eagle. For this order the vessel received:
- (2) Gilsons – with 160 kW AC motors
- (2) Cod end winches
- (2) Capstans
- (2) Retrievers
This vessel was the first Factory Trawler in the US to order (circa 2010) and install (2011) Naust Marine’s electrical Trawling winches and Automatic Trawl Winch (ATW) control system. Later, Net drums and 3rd wire winches were also selected and installed.
Once the new systems above are installed, every American Seafoods big factory trawler will have been updated; all hydraulic winch systems removed and new custom electrical winches in their place. This is a huge step towards the future operations of big fishing vessels. The selection and conversion to electrical winches clearly demonstrates the company’s desire to have the most efficient winch solutions and economical fishing methods available.
