The company Blue Wave Operations Ltd has invested in new equipment from Marine Marine for the freezer trawler Blue Wave. The equipment consists of new Thyristor drives and the ATW (Automatic Towing Winch) System for electrical winches. Reading of length and torque will also be added and registered through the ATW system´s interface. In addition to that an AutoGen power management system will be set up for four generators.
Blue Wave is a freezer trawler of Monsund model built in Russia. 37 Monsund trawlers were built in the years between 1986-1993. About 30 of them are still in use as trawlers in different corners of the world while at least two have been converted into research vessels.
Naust Marine has sold ATW systems to be set up in 14 of the 30 Monsund trawlers still in use, making its market share approximately 50%. According to Naust Marine´s information no other company has been updating Monsund winch systems, making the company´s market share 100%.
Naust Marine´s ATW System is designed to enhance the trawls efficiency by keeping it steady in the sea at all times, regardless of wind, current and towing direction. It also transfers control of the winches from the winch chamber on deck to the bridge, both front and aft. After the change the skipper can control the winches during shooting and hauling directly from the frot bridge.
Originally there was no winch control from bridge in the Monsund trawlers, meaning that the winches had to be controlled by instructions from the bridge through loudspeaker. This meant that a man had to be on duty in the winch cabin at all times ready to receive instructions from bridge. The ATW system enables this man to tend to other duties on deck when shooting/hauling is done.
Naust Marines AutoGen System has also given good results in Monsund trawlers as their main engines are relatively small. Many Monsund owners have therefore chosen to add or enlarge auxciliary engines to the ships to be able to transfer load from the main engine.
Blue Wave is now in Las Palmas, where its auxciliary engines are being replaced and two more added. The AutoGen system will make it possible to transfer all electricity production from the main engines to the auxciliary engines. The AutoGen System also makes it possible to make full use of the auxciliary engines power by directing their remaining energy to the main engine´s generators where it can be used to power the screw.
Naust Marine congratulates the captain and crew of Blue Wave on the new equipment.
